Let’s Get Ethereal

Elated to present this new body of work, a divine constellation of multicolored clouds, returning Jamie to her rural roots exploring landscapes while diving deeper into spirituality. Jamie pushes the boundaries of what paintings can be through a highly experimental process of dying, braiding, weaving, stitching and staining raw canvases. The material is then arranged in soft, celestial cloudlike formations that appear to float atop the wall, affixed only by a delicate ring of metal from the earth. Intimate feminine domestic gestures become grand moments as the paintings morph into supple three-dimensional objects jutting out of the wall. The scale references the body, the size of a head, the torso, or outstretched arms and influences range from Robert Rauschenberg to Jessica Stockholder, from Arte Povera to Pattern and Decoration movements, from Formalism to Feminism. Let’s Get Ethereal takes the viewer to an otherworldly location in the mind, breaking outside the box of our material world as much as her paintings break outside of the traditional canvas.
